Why The Patriots Need Julius Peppers

Well, simply put, the New England Patriots needs Julius Peppers because they have no pass rush. Burgess was a joke, he had something like 5 sacks, many of those coming late in the season. Where was he the rest of the season. They brought this guy in as a PASS RUSHING SPECIALIST, yet he did NONE of that. That’s fantastic. Back to the point at hand here. Julius Peppers is a premier defensive end. He is (was, if he doesn’t sign a new contract) for Carolina what Richard Seymour pre-2006 was for the Patriots: the guy you know will find a way to get pressure on the quarterback, and get you big play sacks in big games. The Pats should do all they can to sign this guy.

Patriots vs. Dolphins

Really looking forward to this game. I just want to start out by saying I hate Joey Porter with a burning passion. This guy has a hard-on for being a huge douche bag. What gives buddy? Were you neglected as a child? Give me a fucking break. I hope someone on the offensive line buries this guy once and for all.

Brady needs to throw at least three TDs for me to be happy, and Maroney needs to show he’s the running back worth the 1st round pick four years ago we thought he was. As long as no one gets hurt and the Pats come out with it, I’m happy.

How the Patriots do will be determined by their offensive balance. They need to stick with what has got them their five wins this season, and that’s the balance between the pass and the run. Now I’ve heard many analysts say you can’t pass effectively without establishing the run. That’s really not true with the Patriots. But what I am really starting to believe is that the Patriots can’t run effectively without the pass. They need to come out and open the Dolphins defense up right away, but soon thereafter they need to strike the balance in their attack.

Patriots 2009 Schedule

So the Patriots have a fairly tough road ahead of them by way of their 2009 Season schedule. That NFC South is going to be a lot to handle, especially with The Saints & The Falcons, each with great offenses (and we know the Patriots secondary has sucked royally the past few years; hopefully that will change this year with the addition of Shawn Springs & Leigh Bodden).

I’m very very excited for the 2009 season to get under way. Since the Patriots traded Matt Cassel & Mike Vrabel I have been biting my nails as I sit and wait for the Draft. They have a lot to do in the draft, but it looks like the higher ups made some great choices in Leigh Bodden & Shawn Springs. We’ll see though. The Pats are going to need linebackers, big time. The Draft should be interesting.

Patriots still the Favorites…

The Jets may have signed a very good player for every skilled defensive position, but we all see what’s going on here. We see right through you, Rex Ryan. How is your offense? How are Kellen Clemens, Jericho Cotchery, and Thomas Jones going to carry that offense? They’re not. Okay, Thomas Jones is a decent running back, but I just don’t see him have the same year in 2009 that he had in the 2008 season. Jericho Cotchery might go for 1,000 yards receiving, but only because there’s no one else to throw to. But wait, then there’s the big quarterback questions. You’re telling me that the Jets didn’t have it in them, or never even thought, to go get a decent quarterback during free agency. I’d take Byron Leftwich or David Carr (gone to NYG) over Kellen Clemens, Erik Ainge, and Brett Ratliff ANY DAY OF THE WEEK. When it comes down to it, the Patriots still have the most well-balanced team in the AFC, and I might even go so far as to say the NFL. It’s there’s to be won, again.

I’m really happy to see the Patriots are adding to that secondary. Although Shawn Springs appears to be a similar signing to Deltha O’Neal, I feel this could be a different story. I’m really excited to see that Leigh Bodden signs with the Patriots. This guy has played on some shitty teams and succeeded. I’m interested to see what he can do in New England. I’m excited, keep ‘em coming New England!
